patience – one step at a time

Similar to Rome which was not built in one day….our house will take some time until it is “ours”. What I mean is that we make it our home.

Yesterday, we finished the bedroom. Finally we got some curtains and got the chest of drawers up etc. It makes such a difference. It is all painted too. Furniture is due to arrive on Saturday, that will be another big step. Getting rid of more boxes.

I keep you up to date – as we go along.

Cheers

Volker

PS: I cut the grass the other day. A new experience every day.

We moved!

What a week. Packing boxes and arranging for the big move. Deadlines at work, late nights…..

Wow! We made it. Thanks to a good friend we managed to move all our stuff yesterday. 6-11 :-) Thanks for your help S.

We moved the kitchen stuff Thursday night – thanks for the patience everyone who helped. Am not the easiest person to be around if tired, exhausted and moving….

Guess that comes into self development of patience.

As far as I can tell all things are good. The washingmachine proved to be most tricky. Not only did I have to take a side board off to connect it to the mains, the connection to the water supply was hidden behind a kitchen construction and the drain was not overly tight. But, so far so good, it is running this morning without leaking. Fingers crossed.

My wife painted a lot already too. Now we are sitting between 100s of boxes and stuff and need to clear out, pack out, organise, paint more, IKEA etc. Just another usual weekend….

I keep you updated.

By the way, nothing beats a fresh ground coffee in your own garden on a sunny Saturday morning.

Renovating….

If you think I am speaking about the new house, then you have to think again. We had a black wall in our current, rented flat. This is due to our lovely candles we assume. Sooth it is and we tried washing it off yesterday but realised it will never look nice again.

So at 3.45 we made a wild dash to Homebase and got some cans of paint, a brush etc. and now my wife is painting the living room. I am useless when it comes to painting and support with food, wine and refreshments….and ironing.

However, update on the house is that we should get a contract through this week. Means hopefully tomorrow. Today is bank holiday.

I keep you posted, no doubt!

Furniture for the new house

More excitement.

You all know there are certain things in life that require managing in a relationship. It starts with moving in together, then getting used to each other, accepting the other’s faults (if there are any of course ,-)) and….once you bought or are in the process of buying you start looking at furniture.

When we first started I did not even know about furniture and where to buy it. What would we need, what did we have. My wife’s first comment was “NO IKEA” – and I agreed. It is functional, we have a lovely Ikea bed but for our own place, we want something nice.

So we decided to look around and we both found something we both liked quite quickly. Isn’t that love I think? Despite different tastes for pictures (my wife hates that £5 picture from the charity shop but puts up with it for 4 years in our living room), different taste for Plants (I better do not go into details of my little greenhouse collection) we found furniture we both like and that will perfectly fit into our wee house.

Unfortunately I cannot download the picture but if you go to www.lombok.co.uk you find out what we like.

Weekly Update – Volker’s planet

It is funny that. You wake up on a Sunday, early April, and it is snowing. Brilliant. If I had slept last night and my neighbours would have not woken us up, then I could enjoy it even more.

But it won’t be long now until we move. We measured the house, looked at furniture and are excited about it. The survey gets done tomorrow. So hopefully we exchange contracts before end of April with us moving in as early as first of June.

43 Allen Road

I only went there the 2nd time yesterday afternoon, and I am so in love with that place. We cannot wait! Away from noisy neighbours, own garden, lovely fire place and “it is ours” (and the bank’s of course).
