Take massive Actions! – Productivity Tip 6

The only moment you can influence is NOW!!!

Something that sounds so simple, yet is so true.

Buddha famously said, do not dwell n the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment. It’s what I teach in mindfulness too.

It sounds simple on first read, but just what does it mean?

Take actions! Take massive actions as Tony Robbins would suggest.

Yes, go and live in the now, live every moment to the fullest and make decisions that allow you to achieve more in life, making you more successful in the process.
And what does success mean? Define it for yourself, or listen to my podcast where I asked all my guests how they define success.

If you align those decisions to your values and work towards your purpose, you are already ahead of your competition.
Whether that’s to find the right career, or next step to propel you forward.

This is what you learn in my course. That’s what I can help you with as a coach!

Inbox Zero – Manage your emails Now – Productivity Tip 3

Whoever invented emails should have thought of how to manage them. We are inundated with them, daily, hourly, every second. And, if you didn’t follow my tip number 1, where I suggest to turn off your notifications, you end up with lots of them if you don’t manage your emails correctly.

Let’s be honest, are you finding the time to read all the emails coming in?

I love inbox zero, which is my productivity tip.

Schedule emails to return to your inbox for when they are relevant and transfer important tasks out of your inbox into a trusted system, like a task management app. That’s the key. Don’t let your emails mount up in your inbox to become your todo list that you never finish. Before you know it, you have 1000s of emails in your inbox and it takes days to clear.

If there is a task in the email, put it in your task list.
If it takes 2 minutes to reply, do it now.
If it isn’t important, delete it.
If it to be done later, schedule the email to return when you need it, or as a reminder.

Stop Listening To Your Notifications! Productivity Tip 1

How do you manage your time?
Are you living by the reminders on your phone?

Stop this now! Stop Listening to your notifications.

As a series that I published a while back on Linkedin, I wanted to repeat this on my blog to make you aware of the top productivity tips I find fit for our day and age.

One of my key productivity tips is to turn off any notifications and alerts on your desktop, phone or tablet.

Start being in charge of your time and be in control of who you answer to. And when. You must be in control of what’s happening with your most valuable asset: your time. It’s not necessarily about how you manage your time, but how you preserve your time for what’s important in the now.

Watch my productivity tip number 1.

Productivity Book Promotion #BeBetter

As an executive and productivity coach, it isn’t very uncommon to have a book published on productivity. This was my first ever book and my next book on Success Principles will be published later this year.

Given we are all back after a long summer, a great long bank holiday weekend, it might just be the right time to kick-start your productivity habits.

I have developed a 7 pillar framework which looks at

– Defining what success actually means
– Looking at your values and purpose
– Defining the here and now and status quo
– What do you want to achieve?
– Define your stepping stones.
– Plan your actions, as a plan is no good without actions
– #BeBetter

There is a lot more in the book, about trusted systems, healthy bodies, and spirits; it covers habits and routines, productivity tools and more.

Let me know if you like the ideas or want to have a chat about the book or how this could be applied to your executives and teams.

Best thing. The book is FREE to download from AMAZON this week! Promotion is on until Thursday.

Sunday Column (487)

Has it been another week? Really? Time flies. Not long now and it’s another year, if you know what I mean. The times are changing and so is my outlook on life and with every conversation, every podcast, I am looking for my next purpose in life, the bigger thing. Does that make sense to you?

This week I recorded three podcasts. One was about homeless people, one about the plastics in oceans and another was about the generation cherry, and what to do when taking redundancy. Serendepity or not, all of those come at a time when I am discussing not jobs, but opportunities to join and work for companies, doing more contract work and see which direction I might go. Look at adjusting the sails according to the wind in the industry and how I add most value to people that are interested in my skills. And as long as people are interested, and as long as I show flexibility, things will be ok. Life isn’t bad at all, life is good and actually, I would almost go as far as calling it exciting. Embrace life for what it is.

Sometimes we just have to take stock, which I did over the past few months, and what I call “re-calibration”. That means for me to assess my values, my aspirations and what it means to me to have a happy, a fulfilled life. What makes me tick? The start up or the corporate? The advisory role or contract role or the permanent one? Whichever path I choose, I move in the right direction, as there isn’t a wrong direction, is there? There is nothing you can loose, if you move forward. Do it. Carpe idem.

What if we question all the conventional boundaries and go for things that we have never done before. What if we set sail and start into the unknown. To survive, to live and to change. To leave a legacy and something to be remembered by. Of course life isn’t as black and white, but imagine for a minute it was and you could be the one adding colour the way you want, not the way others want. Yet you are the one that determines what and when you do things. Wouldn’t you be happier?

I have 13 posts to go. Another quarter of the year. Then I hit the magical 500 Sunday Columns. I launched the first column on the 1st of March 2009. Shortly before my first redundancy in a year which should have changed my life. My first son was born. I took a 2nd redundancy. Wow. That’s almost 10 years now and I just moved forward and forward…..I enjoy writing but I am also contemplating of changing things around. To keep it fresh….

Life has just begun, and you are in charge to make the most of it. Every single day!

Anyway, those are my thoughts this week. What have you been up to?

Best,
Volker

Sunday Column (271)

It seems like a long week. Every time I seem to come down with a common cold, I get something else on top. Or, once ran down, I take ages to recover. I don’t know if it is my immune system, or just all the stuff that was going on over the last few weeks.

Anyway, after a temperature and feeling really down last weekend, I slowly recovered from Monday, with last symptoms being there until end of week. It seems to be crazy but I now will be back on my training cycle, not only to keep my weight off but to stay fit and fight off any more bugs. At least this time I can blame the kids for all the bugs as the whole family had it.

I still wonder if when travelling you pick up more bugs and with the commute too. I tried vitamin pills, sauna and all, but nothing seems to help. I suppose if your kids got the bug, you can’t escape it. Because on any other aspects of my body, as far as I am aware, I am very healthy. We work on it.

Let’s stop moaning about bugs and move on to nicer things. Better weather will help either way, with bugs, things to do and plan weekends with the kids. Just hanging out in the garden, go for walks, take the kids to places etc. I cannot wait as we also do our planning for the summer holidays. With the renovation work it will be a bit low key but we are hopingo to try out some camping and caravan experience.

Work has been fairly busy this week with some more great progress. I really enjoy the new (or not so new anymore) challenge and feel like this is the right direction I am going. Things happen for a reason and I when looking back over the past 12 months things have moved on. Life has been good to me, yet challenging. If you truly believe things will happen, they will, you can achieve anything you want.

Anthony Robbins has this RPM, rapid planning method. A result oriented, purpose driven, massive action plan. If you plan about what you really want in life, what you want to achieve now (e.g. weight loss)? What is my purpose? Why is it so important for me to make something work? To achieve something? And, what massive action do I have to take to achieve that?

That’s what it is about. The master plan, the right action and the inner match to your purpose.

Let me know if you are ready for your next challenge, and what you want to achieve.

Have a great week!

Cheers,
Volker
